Dabbling in Furniture Refashioning

Yup...you read it correct.  I did a little dabbling in some furniture refashioning this week.  I got this old hope check from a friend of my mothers.  I thought it would be a fun project to try out some painting and glazing on.  I have painted some furniture before but never glazing.  I am thinking not bad for my first time.  Would love to know what you think.

Here is a before....

Here is the after...

My friend Patti West inspired me.  She has been painting furniture for some time now and every time I am on face book seeing her latest project I am in awwwwww.  I just had to give it a try.  Thanks Patti!

Here are some close ups....

I used a mustard color paint from Home Depot.  If you live in Shrewsbury and need some help go see Kay at HD.  She is fantastic!

I got my glaze from Sherwin Williams.  It is tinted with Van Dyke Brown.  I distressed the edges and top with sandpaper, a big old chain that Gregg took off the camper for me, and a hammer.  That part was really fun.

I used a spray matt finish for the top sealer, did not really work out so well, kind of blotchy.  But, I took some steelwool to it and it look pretty good after that.

So what do you think?

  2. Very nicely done. I think I might have to try this with my dresser. I haven't done any furniture makeovers in a long time. Thanks for sharing!
